Death notice: William G. Ruddy

William G. Ruddy, born July 19, 1937, in Ansonia, Conn., died Nov. 26 after a year’s battle with bone marrow cancer.

He was a graduate of Yale University (1959) and Yale Law School (1962), served in Army Intelligence and worked for the Federal Maritime Commission in Washington, D.C., before moving to Alaska to work in the Attorney General’s office in 1964 with his first wife, Susan Lynch Ruddy. He later joined firm Robertson, Mondagle & Annis and served in the Alaska National Guard from 1962-68. He was also known for starting the Juneau Volunteer Marching Band and for his involvement in many musical endeavors.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Kolkhurst Ruddy, whom he wed in 1979, and children Lydia Ruddy of Jakarta, Indonesia; Sean (Pauline) Ruddy of Anchorage and Halibut Cove; Anna (Jason) Speichinger of Nairobi, Kenya; and Elena (Forrest) Merrill of Missoula, Mont., as well as two grandchildren, Ezra and Ruth Speichinger, and many foreign exchange students.

Services will be held at Chapel by the Lake at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, with a reception to follow. All are welcome. Donations may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation Inc. and Hospice and Home Care of Juneau.
