Mary (Squarebriggs) Clements died March 20 at age 96.
Clements came to Alaska around 1918 and lived the life of Bush Alaskans. She was an artist, playing the piano and accordion and started a band called Over the Hillbillies. She owned the only grand piano on the Kenai Peninsula. She spent her final days performing at the Juneau Pioneers Home.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Deborah Woodruff. Her husband Chuck Clements and son Charlie Clements preceded her in death.
A memorial will be held in Gustavus at a date yet to be determined. Donations can be made to the Gustavus Community Clinic, P.O. Box 399, Gustavus, AK 99826, in lieu of flowers.
