Healthy Lifestyle Challenge: The Way Fitness Should Be Tip #3

Healthy lifestyles include making fitness a habit and part of your life, every day.  Once you’ve decided to make a plan and commit to it, now you need to stick with it.  With the busy lives we all lead, our best laid plans can be difficult to keep. Life has a way of throwing us a few curve balls, but creating habits takes consistency so a few things to remember:

Make it a priority. Once you’ve set your workout times, you need to keep your appointment. Think of your workout time the same way you would if you were meeting friends for dinner. You wouldn’t dream of just not showing up, would you?

Be flexible. We all need some flexibility in our routines, so there will be times you have to reschedule your workout. Planned on a noon group cycle but couldn’t get out of the office to make class on time? Jump on a stationary bike instead and rock out to your favorite tunes for an hour.  Minus 10 degrees outside? Take that morning run inside and hop on the treadmill at the gym instead.

Always reschedule. Life happens.  When you need to pick up a sick child from school or when finishing that presentation for the big business meeting will take most the night  keeps you from your workout that day, that’s okay.  Just make sure you get that workout scheduled back into the same week.  If you’ve committed to 3 workouts a week and come Sunday afternoon and you have only logged 2 that week, do something!
