Soundscape
By Linda Buckley
Go outside, close your eyes
on a rainless dreary day
and listen
at first pine siskins may
dominate the soundscape
then you notice
undertones of snow melt
drizzling down drains and ditches
raven solos a quark from his perch
crows caw a cadenza
a jay jabbers his way into the mix
high in a hemlock
silhouetted against the sky
kingfisher opens his mouth
on the next rainy day
go outside, close your eyes
and listen!
