Juneau City and Borough voters are welcomed to come and get the facts about a newly proposed City and Borough of Juneau Ordinance. If voters approve such in a later election, financial disclosure of City government officials will transfer from the Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC) to local government.
Why, you might ask, is such of any importance now? We have much more important issues; forest fires, floods, drought, joblessness, homelessness, and financial doom facing us at home. Even more frightening are nuclear power plant worries, three foreign wars, rising Asian economic power, drug wars, and diminishing electric power to sustain productive economies to which we have become accustomed.
There is one common denominator beneath all of these listed disasters and crises — human families. Families, neighbors, friends, public safety workers, and governmental disaster relief funds are courageously working together to face and overcome all of these earthy, human events. This is our ongoing work in progress: government of the people, by the people, and for the people. No one said it was easy. It demands being there, getting the facts, listening respectfully, talking, and voting. In our best tradition, the Juneau League of Women Voters welcomes you to a public forum on Monday, June 20 from 7-9 p.m. at the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly Chambers. Please join us in this fact-finding forum about local public official financial disclosure.
