I am not in favor of moving the Fishermen’s Memorial. Kate Troll’s recent article in the Empire spoke to my heart. Juneau is home for those who live here, work here, contribute to the community through paid and unpaid service. The community is special; it is home.
Some sites are sacred in a community. I believe that there is not a single person who would favor moving the individuals’ graves in the local cemetery. For those who may not have had a person to bury, those taken by the sea, the memorial serves as a burial/memorial site. Thank you, Kate for pointing out to me what I sometimes forget — Juneau is my home. It is special.
