Help save Bristol Bay

I am a second-generation commercial fisherwoman in the waters of Bristol Bay; home to the largest sockeye salmon run in the world. Since I started fishing as a young girl, Bristol Bay has taught me valuable life lessons of determination, hard work, gratitude, love, and loss. Unfortunately, the water, land, animals, and people of this sacred place could potentially be destroyed forever by the ignorant acts of others. The Pebble Mine project proposes to create the largest open pit mine for copper, gold, and molybdenum the United States has ever seen. This 2-mile-wide open pit mine would be located at the heart of Bristol Bay’s watershed near Lake Iliamna and Lake Clark. Not only could Pebble Mine potentially destroy the delicate ecosystem that provides healthy food, jobs, and a way of life for those of Bristol Bay and around the world, but Pebble Mine intends to built roads, bridges, and pipelines across this untouched land; opening it to the outside world. As people of Alaska, we have the right and the duty to stand up for what we know in our hearts is right. At this point in history, we have the opportunity to stop the rape and destruction of natural resources that our world has fallen victim to. The life lessons of determination, hard work, gratitude, love, and loss are something that revenue from an open pit mine can never buy or ever replace. The decision is now yours. What life lessons do you want for your future generations and for those of our world? Your decision now is possibly the greatest gift you could ever give in life. Act now, and make a difference because before you know it, there may be nothing left fighting for.
