The Grinch visits Juneau

I am a member of the People to People Ambassadors wrapping gifts at the Nugget Mall. I want to thank all the kind people who have stopped by and donated to us. People to People has always been well supported by the Juneau community and we appreciate your support.

 

I also want to say shame on you to the man who scammed our ambassadors today. He dropped off toys for kids, and stole a wine press and expensive sweater insisting that he had dropped them off instead. The students were busy and trusted him. Replacing the items cost almost $400. The scammer even had his loot beautifully wrapped by his victims. Stealing from hard working ambassadors is shameful, that is more money than they make in a full day of wrapping.

John, the rightful owner of these items was very kind, the ambasadors paid to replace the press and sweater, but he was understandably unhappy with the loss because the sweater was one of a kind.

We have learned a tough lesson and we are carefully monitoring all transactions with names, photos, tickets, and careful questioning of people picking up orders.

I know that other charities are gift wrapping, please be careful and don’t let this happen to you.
