Some damage can't be undone

I am a first time writer to the editor and feel very strongly on the issue of the PacRim mining plan. This plan is terrible, bad and stupid. To think that anyone of us on this planet can return a salmon stream to its original state after destroying it is idiotic.

I have lived in Alaska for only 7 years, growing up in Washington State. In Washington, they have destroyed many rivers and tributaries for political gain or money. The mighty Columbia River is not what it was and sadly will never be again. The snake and other salmon rivers have been changed. The future generations of that state will never see the wild salmon that we have up here.

Alaska is my home now and I love all the aspects that this great land has. We do not need to make dangerous precedents in destroying the salmon streams here. I and other Alaskans were sighing with relief when Gov. Parnell stated he would never trade one resource for another. I urge you and others to stand ground and show him that we are serious Alaskans and believe when politicians promise something, that we want them to hold to it… and not flip-flop to the political whims of the hour. Gov. Parnell, you will be held to what you promise today and tomorrow. Therefore, think hard and remember who you work for; Alaskans today and future generations. You will be an Alaskan leader if you keep salmon for future generations!
