What person coming or going to the airport hasn’t enjoyed the view of the wetlands; remember when homemade artistic sculptures adorned the area? It’s a beautiful area with the Channel nearby and the mountains in the near distance, and a reminder of Juneau’s good fortune.
I expect most of the town thought as I did; the Wetlands are protected.
However, as the Empire’s front page story and map (good for you!) showed on Dec. 18, 2012 62 of 83 acres there are not protected and the Becknell Company wants to use it for a combination of industrial and light commercial uses. The proposed area is bordered by Egan Drive. Consult the Empire for the map.
The hearing has been delayed by the Zoning Commission. If you feel you don’t want to see a mix of commercial and industrial buildings sitting on this property, please make your views known to the commission and the Assembly members.

I can't find the article you reference in the Empire archives. I'd love to read it.

Thanks You_Know_Juneau.
Buy the land yourself DEE
interesting on how you can dictate you won't accept books authored by conservatives because you don't agree with their message and/or ideals, but here a land owner apparently cannot develop his own property, according to you and others in town, because you enjoy looking at the flowers and driftwood art on said property??
Who in the heck do you think you are anyway? If Bicknell wants to put in something outside of the designated uses, let it go through the process, but to act like you have the right to say he can't do anything with it because you don't want to go elsewhere for your wetlands fix really bites.
settle down cheechako
No one said Bicknell can't do it. The author made a clear statement. You just misinterpreted it. Anyone who does not wish to have commercial or industrial use on the Mendenhall Wetlands refuge should make a point to have their voices heard before it's too late. It has nothig to do with seeing driftwood (duck hunting is quite popular there) and locals shouldn't have to buy land to preserve it for all who currently enjoy it. So take a chill pill and make sure you let the zoning commission know you don't care if Bicknell or anyone else develops the wetlands. I'm sure they're interested in hearing a blowhard's opinion on what the wetlands should be used for.
@Dee
If this property is of such value to you, perhaps you should offer to buy it. I'm sure Bicknell would be willing to entertain a serious offer.
