Rezone of wetlands by airport

What person coming or going to the airport hasn’t enjoyed the view of the wetlands; remember when homemade artistic sculptures adorned the area? It’s a beautiful area with the Channel nearby and the mountains in the near distance, and a reminder of Juneau’s good fortune.

I expect most of the town thought as I did; the Wetlands are protected.

However, as the Empire’s front page story and map (good for you!) showed on Dec. 18, 2012 62 of 83 acres there are not protected and the Becknell Company wants to use it for a combination of industrial and light commercial uses. The proposed area is bordered by Egan Drive. Consult the Empire for the map.

The hearing has been delayed by the Zoning Commission. If you feel you don’t want to see a mix of commercial and industrial buildings sitting on this property, please make your views known to the commission and the Assembly members.
