Protect salmon - oppose these bad bills

You know that salmon stream you love? The governor doesn’t think you should have the right to keep enough water in it for salmon to spawn.

On Jan. 27, Governor Sean Parnell wrote: “Alaskans have the right to have a say over regulation of our own resources including land and water.” But the very same day he introduced a bill (HB77/SB26) designed to strip Alaskan citizens of their rights to assure enough water is left in streams to support healthy salmon runs.

Alaskan citizens currently have the right to apply for an “Instream Flow Reservation.” This common-sense water right benefits all Alaskans by protecting salmon and the economy salmon support. If passed by the Legislature, the governor’s bill will take the public out of resource development decisions trusting only Big Government and Corporate interest to know what is best for Alaska. Just know that when corporations seek future water use permits there is no requirement for the Department of Natural Resources to limit the volume, assuring there is enough water for wild Alaskan salmon.
