Tis a puzzlement

I understand the obstacles of snow, rain, heat and gloom of night but not that of the U.S. Postal Service itself. On the heels of termination of Saturday delivery of mail, which doubles the carriers’ burden the following Monday, we folks in Auke Bay and beyond are told, without prelude or justification, that the availability of service at the Auke Bay station’s counter soon will be curtailed substantially. Why? I’ve spoken with customers and with postal employees, none of whom seems to be able to answer that question. Is it economical? Is it more convenient for someone? It certainly is less so for us customers, and the postal employees at Auke Bay seem to work efficiently and without complaint in the present system. Might this be a surreptitious step toward eventual closing of this branch? I, for one, am quite content with the present arrangement.
