Leadership is defined as “the actions of leading a group of people or an organization”. Our CBJ proposed 2014 budget is built on a very small mil levy increase on property assessments leading to a slight increase in property taxes.
Put the proposed mil levy in the historical perspective of the past 20 years: 1995 @ 14.08 mil levy to a low in 2007 of 10.17; 2010 @ 10.60 and 2013 of 10.55. The proposed mil levy for 2014 is 10.89 which is just 77.3% of the 1995 rate!
Juneau is a unique and special community: public libraries available to all, those without computers and those with them; varied hiking trails enjoyed by visitors and residents alike, the envy of most communities; and a public transportation system available to all including the young and old. Juneau is more than an individual, it is a community striving for the common good of all, including those with special needs.
I urge you to contact our CBJ Assembly members to adopt the proposed 2014 budget. You may also testify Monday evening, April 22 at the Assembly Chambers at 7. This is not a time for nay-sayers who say it can’t be done. This is a time for leadership with vision to continually improve the quality of life by adopting the proposed the 2014 mil levy of 10.89 and keep these valuable programs intact. This is a time to act!
