Repeal the giveaway

SB 21 gives a reduction in taxes to the oil companies of $4.5 to $5 billion dollars. The bill would not have passed if the legislators with conflicts of interest had not voted. Here is information from APOC (Alaska Public Offices Commission). Remember that 2013 information is not out yet.

Representative Mike Hawker’s wife worked for ConocoPhillips 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 earning $113,685.22, $108,769.39, $115,360.55, $111,956.72, $106,800, “$100,000 - $200,000” and “$100,000 - $200,000” respectively. This conflict of interest did not stop Representative Hawker from voting to reduce the oil taxes on his wife’s employer.

Representative Lora Reinbold’s husband worked for ConocoPhillips in 2012 and earned “$200,000 - $500,000”. This conflict of interest did not stop Representative Reinbold from voting to reduce the oil taxes on her husband’s employer.

Senator Kevin Meyer works for ConocoPhillips. In the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 they paid him $65,000, $70,000, $80,000, $87,000, $90,000, “$50,000 - $100,000” and “$50,000 - $100,000” respectively. Senator Meyer spent three months working in the legislature and nine months working for ConocoPhillips. This conflict of interest did not bother Senator Meyer because he too voted to reduce the oil taxes for his employer.

Senator Peter Micciche also works for ConocoPhillips. He reported earning “$200,000 - $500,000 from ConocoPhillips in 2012. Like Senator Meyer, this conflict of interest did not bother Micciche either because he too voted to reduce the oil taxes for his employer.

These four legislators are a disgrace to the State of Alaska and should resign.

You can help undo this giveaway by signing the petition to overturn SB21. In 2011 and 2012, the oil companies hired 21 lobbyists and paid them $2,053,970.04. You can help offset their big money by going to http://www.repealtheoilgiveaway.org and making a donation. Every dollar helps.
