Alaskans deserve hiring preference

By the stroke of a pen of a member of the Governors cabinet, Alaskans have to get in line behind applicants from outside Alaska for Alaskan jobs. I cannot see any excuse for doing away with the policy of putting Alaskans first in Alaska and this will be the first time the requirement for giving our jobs to our own people has ever been lifted. We have road construction workers, carpenters, and painters right here, and it is imperative not to have those and other state jobs given away to individuals from the lower 48 if we want strong Alaskan families. Alaska is an expensive place to live and we need to make sure our own people have access to good paying jobs doing work in the their own state and to benefit their fellow Alaskans. Ultimately Governor Sean Parnells’ administration has made sure fewer jobs are available to Alaskans, and our tax dollars leave our state by the millions in the pockets of seasonal workers whose sole interest in our state is a paycheck.
