Fairbanks Four

I am writing in regards to the Fairbanks Four. A wrongful conviction in 1997 sent four innocent men to prison for the brutal murder of John Hartman.

Astounding recent developments have been brought to light, and truth can no longer remain in the shadows. The Alaska Innocence Project has been diligently investigating this matter since 2008, and in September provided the State of Alaska with an affidavit establishing the guilty party, and that the “Fairbanks Four” played no role in the death of John Hartman. The Alaska Federation of Natives just passed a resolution of support for post-conviction release efforts. Senator Lisa Murkowski has asked the Alaska Assistant Attorney General to leave no stone unturned with respect to the question of these unlawful incarcerations.

I have written to Governor Parnell strongly urging him to seize this opportunity to right an injustice that has festered in our hearts for 16 years; please exonerate these men and thus streamline the process of finally exposing the truth in this matter.

Beyond monetary costs, the price of such wrongful imprisonment is great. Half of their lives have been lost behind bars, and those of us who love these men suffer along with them. Yet we will never give up. Our faith, love, prayers and our fight for their freedom shall not falter. This case is gaining national attention, and the movement for their freedom is growing stronger and stronger. The truth is finally coming into the light, and supporters of the Fairbanks Four stand united.

The Fairbanks Four: Kevin Pease, George Frese, Marvin Roberts and Eugene Vent; these men are my beloved family and friends, and after all these years we are still waiting for them to come home.

It is with all due respect to the family and loved ones of John Hartman, and in the name of truth and justice that I ask you, my fellow Alaskans to please join me in this fight for freedom for the Fairbanks Four.

Kind Regards,

Tillila Beetus
