When winter comes can fall be far behind? Who amongst us cannot appreciate a thing of beauty? A wild place where swaying sedge-green fields abound with vermilion-hued flowers; a wild place where countless creatures live out their ordained lives in circumscript wildness.

There is such a place on Egan Drive and it is called the “Field of Fireweed.” It’s a place where Fireweed has survived and flourished. It is not only magnificent for one to behold every fall — but most importantly — hosts a myriad of hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other varieties of creatures to be found.

But, alas, now there are those on the Juneau Assembly and Planning and Zoning Commission who would vote to have this local treasure forever destroyed in perpetuation of the myth of Midas. And what a crying shame.

If you agree and cannot see this happen please let assembly and planning commission members know. It isn’t too late — yet.
