In 1857, Alaska was purchased from Russia. The Russians, it seemed, knew that there was a wealth of natural resources in the Alaska but were not able to govern it in such a manner so as to maximize their return. So, they sold it. Let’s call Russia’s plan to govern Alaska up until 1857 “ACES.”
Lots of wealth, for somebody, but perhaps not the best of management and we are not getting what we should for what ever reason. So, how do we improve the system? Let’s call Russia’s management decision to sell Alaska “SB21,” because they decided to seel now for immediate gain.
Pretend it is 1857 and you are Russian, you get to vote for whether Mother Russia tries to fix ACES or goes with SB21. How would you vote? You have the benefit of knowing that history shows that giving away a natural resource cheap is foolish for your future. Voting “no” on Ballot Measure 1, which retains SB21, gives away our future. Why not just fix it instead?
Vote “yes” on Tueday to rescind SB21 and quit looking like Russia in 1857.
