When Bill Walker first ran for governor in 2010, I asked him why.
He said he was tired of politicians talking about the gas pipeline and never pushing it forward. He would make it happen.
And so he pushes. Oil companies fear the project and have backed away. So where will the money come from? Gov. Walker’s solution is to borrow it, strapping future generations with an unsustainable debt.
He could think outside the box Wall Street has placed us in. A public Bank of Alaska could create a debt-free credit system and start building it now.
My pleas to Alaska politicians and Gov. Walker have fallen on deaf ears.
My individual voice is not loud enough. But with a collective voice of the people they would be forced to listen.
