This is in regard to the opinion in this morning’s paper by a woman representing the “bipartisan” American Legislative Exchange Council, otherwise known as ALEC. Come now, no one can believe this group, funded by the 1 percent, that holds regular conferences for Conservative legislators to prepare them to push the right wing agenda, is bipartisan. The state insurance exchange she so excoriates is exactly from their instructions.

If you are going to print highly conservative opinions, please insist the authors do not try to pass as bipartisan.

When does complacency stop and outrage begin? “How many deaths does it take ‘til we know that too many people have died”?

Why is war at the top of the list of our nation’s priorities? In the last decade, two major wars have cost more than $1.2 trillion. That’s about 2.1 million spent every single minute! This is unspeakable fiscal irresponsibility, taking support away from everything we as a nation proclaim to value: schools, hospitals, housing, education, elimination of poverty, care of our veterans… the list is endless.

You never know what a person is really capable of until they’re in a situation where they’re under pressure. Then, it’s at this point that you really see their true colors. Rep. Steve Thompson, Rep. Lindsey Holmes, and Rep. Kurt Olson were three individuals who, during their service at the House Labor and Commerce Committee a couple weeks ago, were under a great deal of pressure, listening to very emotional testimonies regarding rural veterinary care and the lack thereof. They made the decision to vote yes on HB 251, allowing it to move forward to the next stage.

As a youth delegate at the Alaska Youth for Environmental Action Civics & Conservation Summit, I have focused on House Bill 100. This bill proposes the ban of cultivation of genetically modified fish in the state of Alaska.

Genetically modified fish can have a major impact on wild salmon, and they pose unknown risks to human health. No long-term studies have been conducted to determine the effects. Therefore GM fish cannot be considered healthy to eat.

Wild salmon are a major part of Alaska’s pride and economy; hurting our wild salmon destroys a major part of Alaska.
