To contemplate changing Alaska’s constitution is a very serious matter. When you propose using public money for private and religious schools, it becomes even more serious. We seem to find it difficult to fund our public schools at levels that allow teachers, school boards and parents to intelligently plan ahead. Our flat funding has given us larger class sizes and a decrease in teacher numbers, yet we are proposing to assume the responsibility, at public expense, of private and religious schools. This would seriously impact our public schools.
