Hugh Neff takes early Quest lead

FAIRBANKS — Musher Hugh Neff has taken the early lead in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.

The Quest and Iditarod veteran from Tok stayed the minimum mandatory time required at the first checkpoint at Braeburn before heading the 77 miles upriver.

He was followed early Sunday morning by 2009 champion Sebastian Schnuelle and Wade Marrs two minutes later.

Twenty-three teams are running the 1,000-mile race from Whitehorse to Fairbanks.

The rest of the field was reported out of Braeburn Sunday morning.
