Sen. Bettye Davis, D-Anchorage, left, and Sen. Lesil McGuire, R-Anchorage, shake hands with members of Alaska Native Sisterhood after the Senate passed Davis’ bill, SB 94, to add a second verse to the state song “Alaska’s Flag.” With music composed by Elinor Dusenbury and words to the first verse by Marie Drake, Connie Davis’ mother, Carol Beery Davis, wrote a second verse to the song that pays tribute to Native culture. The house passed a similar bill last legislative session. From right are: Rosa Miller, Carol Brady, Connie Davis, Connie Munro and Susan Clark (partially hidden).

If they have time for this "feel good" silliness, maybe 90 day's is to long?
90 days
If they had 120 days we may have gotten a third verse passed.
Never leve things alone
Why is it the legislature who just have to mess with things best left alone. The Alaska Flag Song was fantastic as it was. Now we have a longer rendition that will result in having it played less on those occasions where the original was used.
A number of radio stations around Alaska use to sign off using the original. I always felt that was another of the true Alaska spirits at work. I know I've sung the original at a number of events. Now I'll probably just pass on joining in. For among other things the original was brief, concise and easy to learn.
As stated by others maybe now they can add more and possibly turn it into an opera.
A great example of how unimportant the new verse is, is how it does not appear in this story.
