Gastineau Elementary school principal Angie Lunda will be taking on a bigger role next year — superintendent of the Hoonah School District.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work with community of Hoonah as we strive together to provide a quality education for all children in the district,” Lunda said. “My passion for equity in education and my commitment to place-based curriculum mesh well with the initiatives currently established in the Hoonah Schools.”
She started with the Juneau School District in 1988 as a teacher at Floyd Dryden Middle School. She then worked in the Alaska Native Educators Program and in 2004, became the principal of Gastineau Elementary School. In 2009, Lunda was selected as one of Juneau’s Women of Distinction for her work in benefiting the lives of children.
Lunda plans to continue working with Juneau School District, but in the form of collaboration between the two districts.
The district will begin a search for a new principal at Gastineau immediately.
