Master carver Tommy Joseph looks over the Centennial Pole on Thursday inside the Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. The 35-foot pole, which celebrates the park’s 100th anniversary, is scheduled to be raised outside the center Sunday. It was originally scheduled to be raised April 9, but with the federal government under the threat of a shutdown, the Park Service postponed the raising and related events.
