Water leaks are causing a disruption of surgical services at Bartlett Regional Hospital, which will require the cancellation of all elective surgeries during the next 24-48 hours, according to a release from the hospital.
Unheated water sent into overhead pipes during maintenance caused water to spill into non-sterile areas of Bartlett’s Surgical service Department, the release states.
Only surgeries that require immediate, life-saving action will be performed at Bartlett until repairs are made, Director of Surgical Services Carlene Conway stated in the release. All other urgent cases would be diverted to other hospitals during the down time.
The water spill did not cause any injuries, and no surgical patients were immediately affected by the leaks.
All patients and physicians affected by the issue have been notified, and will be told when normal services are restored, the release states.
