Photo: Pausing at the memorial

Posted: June 2, 2011 - 7:58pm
A couple pause to look at the Alaska Commercial Fisherman's Memorial on Thursday. The memorial has been a hot topic as the Docks and Harbors Department and the ACFM Board have been working to see if the building of the new cruise ship docks will impact the memorial enough that it must be moved. Some families who have names on the memorial don't want it moved as it would be like "digging up a grave yard" and suggest the proposed floating cruise ship docks to be completed in 2014-15 be relocated to another part of the waterfront. Others favor options such as moving the memorial south along the sea walk, placing it in Marine Park or Norway Point near the Juneau Yacht Club so as to be able to accomondate the annual Blessing Of The Fleet.
