In Juneau, summer reading programs aren’t just for kids anymore.
The Juneau public libraries have started a program for adults that features online and in-person elements.
The Juneau Public Library Book Group on GoodReads is seeking members. It’s a book club with a new twist. As part of this year’s adult summer reading program, groups will meet in person and in the GoodReads group forum, in an experiment in combining social networks and book groups. Every time members review a book and add it to the group shelf or participate in a discussion, they’ll be eligible for a prize drawing. The program will also explore other social networks for readers; participants may learn how to post book reviews and join discussions on related topics in the Juneau Public Library Blog. The group will meet virtually to talk about the books it is reading (no specific books are assigned), follow tangents off to the corners of the world, play around with GoodReads, 39 Clues and other Social Media sites.
