Assembly, Planning Commission meet to review draft flood maps

The City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission and Assembly Committee of the Whole will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the new draft flood maps that define — and in some neighborhoods redefine — flood hazard areas.

The flood map updates the 1981 and 1990 Flood Insurance Rate Maps, 1990 Flood Insurance Study and 1977 Flood Hazard Boundary and Floodway Maps.

Changes were made to some flood areas during the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) review, prompting concerns among some planning commissioners that the public receive ample opportunity to study the maps to see if their homes and insurance rates will be impacted.

More information on the meeting is unavailable as neither the Planning Commission nor the COW have posted agendas, however the proposed flood maps can be viewed at
