Alaska Communications Systems has moved from its location outside the Nugget Mall to 1731 Ralph’s Way, Suite 4, located next to Costco. Its grand opening will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 100 people there will receive free gift bags.
Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
ACS spokeswoman Heather Cavanaugh said the new location is much better for its needs. It gives the store more space to operate, covering 1,200 square feet with a new area design to enhance customer interactivity.
“We’ve had a huge demand for our wireless service locally and many wanted to expand and upgrade,” she said. “The new one (store) is bigger and has a lot of room to showcase newer smartphones and tablets. People can come in and have a lot more hands-on experience.”
The hands-on aspect played a large part in deciding on a new location, especially with the smartphone aspect. Part of the store’s additions is a conference room to hold free classroom sessions and training. Cavanaugh said this makes it a “real experience store.”
“For us, it’s always about being ahead of the curve and giving the best experience for Alaskans,” she said.
“We’re excited to bring this new, high-tech store to Juneau, which provides customers with a hands-on experience with our products and services,” ACS Vice President of Consumer Sales & Service Marla Thompson stated in a release. “Our new store is just another way to show our commitment to providing quality service and products to all Alaskans.”
Cavanaugh said the new store has been planned for the last eight months.
It is not yet known if anything will be taking ACS’ spot at the mall.
Cavanaugh said ACS has 24 Juneau employees, four of whom are in the store.
