Crew aboard the Kodiak King tugboat let out a line to the Sapphire Princess cruise ship during an emergency towing system exercise organized by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the U.S. Coast Guard and Princess Cruises on behalf of the Alaska cruise ship industry at the AJ Dock on Wednesday. The exercise is to develop the best procedures for deploying towing equipment on cruise ships in emergency situations, and to develop one standard emergency towing system for all of Alaska.
A TEMSCO helicopter lowers emergency towing equipment to an Amak Towing Company’s tug, Kodiak King, during an emergency towing system exercise Wednesday in Juneau's harbor. The exercise will be repeated with a Coast Guard helicopter today.
