Bodies found in debris field near Eaglecrest

No names released, recovery may wait until tomorrow

Posted: July 25, 2011 - 3:50pm

Two bodies and wreckage from the fuselage have been discovered amidst an 800-square-foot debris field today at the Douglas Island crash site of a small plane, according to Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

Whether the yet-unidentified bodies will be brought down today is up to crash investigators.

Preliminary investigation indicates the plane may have struck an upper cliff near the Eaglecrest ski area. Weather conditions at the time of the crash on Sunday were poor with low visibility.
