AOPA awards scholarships, seeks applicants

Alaska Peace Officers Association needs more scholarship applicants

The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association (APOA) has awarded two $2,000 college scholarships for the upcoming school year. The recipients are Laurel Stark, who is attending the University of Victoria, and Kaci Hansen, who is attending Montana State University.

The APOA Capital City Chapter has a long history of awarding scholarships but has experienced a lack of applications over the last few years. The scholarships are to support students interested in pursuing a career in the criminal justice field but applications are accepted from students pursuing other endeavors.

Scholars interested in the APOA scholarships can find the applications at counseling centers at all Juneau high schools. Applications are not limited to high school students; current college students may also apply. Applications can be obtained by calling Chapter President Steve Hall at 465-4007. The next scholarships will be awarded in May of 2012.
