The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is issuing an emergency order to close the mountain goat hunting season at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday for the Nakwasina River Drainage portion of the Unit 4 registration goat hunt (RG150).
The closure is to restrict the harvest to the guideline level and prevent overharvest. Biologists have set a maximum guideline harvest objective of five males or one female goat allowed for the area and a female was harvested Monday morning.
All other Unit 4 mountain goat regulations remain unchanged and are not affected by this emergency order. For additional information contact the Sitka Area Wildlife Office at 907-747-5449.
