The Hoonah District Ranger, under the authority granted by the Federal Subsistence Board, will hold a public hearing on a special action that would extend the doe closure for one more season in Northeast Chichagof Controlled Use Area on Chichagof Island in Unit 4. The hearing will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the Forest Service’s Hoonah Ranger District conference room at 430A Airport Road.
The proposed special action would extend the special doe closure in this area to allow the existing stock of deer to produce one more year of recruitment as laid out in the 5-year recovery plan. The hearing will provide an opportunity for the public to offer comments.
The public may also call in to the hearing at 800-857-2497. The passcode to access the conference call is 22311.

I am glad there is plenty of concern for our deer population - Lord knows its a way of life around here.
However, under this management theory, shouldn't there be about zero bucks right now? But guess what, the buck population is fairly strong right now if we are allowed to base this on actual deer sightings or facebook pictures, if you will.
But before you lash out at me, I'll say it for you, "What do I know"? Deer deer everywhere means nothing you mere mortal.
Anyone know where I can buy a DEER CROSSING sign?
Good luck hunters.

Mostly a non-issue. I know a lot of folks who can't wait until the any deer aspect of the season, but I know I have never taken a doe. Most I know still haven't either. Its just the thought that you can take any deer you come across. Less chance of getting skunked that way. I have always managed to find bucks though.
