A witness on their way to the bus stop on the corner of Mendenhall Loop Road and Valley Boulevard spotted a body lying in a ditch Friday morning.
Jason Marshall, a marketing assistant at the Capital City Weekly, said he initially walked past the body positioned face down in the deep ditch, thinking it was a pile of clothes. Closer inspection revealed there was also a body. Marshall said the individual did not respond to verbal prompts. He assumed the person was dead and called the Juneau Police Department.
Marshall said there was a group of people in the area that also saw the body and some notified police.
JPD Spokesperson Cindee Brown-Mills said officers are currently on the scene trying to gain information about the incident.
“All we have this morning is that yes, we found a body in the ditch,” she said.
Brown-Mills said officers have closed Valley Boulevard between Loop Road and Kiowa Drive. Mendenhall Loop Road is also closed between Valley Boulevard and Floyd Dryden Middle School.
Brown-Mills said the JPD will release more information as it becomes available.

Condolences to family and friends.

Kinda crazy how everyone found dead in Juneau is declared a suicide or accidental death and it is brushed under the rug and forgotten about. How can someone be found face down in a ditch not be suspicious? sounds like the Jpd don't want to spend money to investigate anything or have the know how.
Condolences to family and friends.
Worried
Thats the 2nd female found deceased in a ditch.
Kinda worrisome to me.
They know something we don't
like maybe alcohol or drugs were involved, or maybe she had a health condition that we don't know about. Why always bashing of JPD?
This is very sad and no one needs to be bashed, remember her family will read this and there is enough trauma that they have to deal with already.
Sorry Jason :(
Three cheers for the intrepid photographer/bus rider who called. He's my fiancee, couldn't be marrying a better man.
Hopefully this was just a case of a badly-timed seizure or heart attack followed by a fall into the water. This is literally right outside our house, after all. Many condolences to the family.
May God bring comfort to the Family, Relatives, and Friends!
When my heart cries out you hear my call, your hand is upon me as tear drops fall.
Only you can comfort this pain here with in, I have to reach out for healing to begin.
In this very hour I know that you are alive, when I have no strengh yet I now survive.
So draw close to me now and show me the way, teach dear Lord how I should pray.
Marilyn Williams.
May her family find comfort in knowing she is with God now.
And someday they will all meet again.
My Condolences and Deepest Sympathy!
I wonder if the intersection camera recorded any helpful data?
Condolences to her friends and family.

So Sad
My heart goes out to the family. She was the sweetest person and had the biggest heart. I'm so glad that I got to see her this summer. Mary you will be missed.

why not just look at the video?
Isn't that area covered by the traffic camera? Or does it just take pictures?
