A crew from a Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a man off a cruise ship to Juneau Tuedsay night, according to a release from Coast Guard District 17.
The Statendam, a Holland America ship, called the District 17 command center to report a 70-year-old man on board was suffering symptoms of congestive heart failure, the release stated.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter left Coast Guard Station Sitka at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday and arrived at the Gustavus airport at 9:15 p.m., according to the release. Crew from the Statendam transported the man via small boat to shore, where they were met by emergency medical personnel. That EMS team transported the man to the awaiting helicopter at 9:45 p.m.
The helicopter arrived at Juneau International Airport at 10:35 p.m., where another EMS crew took him to Bartlett Regional Hospital.
The release from the Coast Guard does not give the man's condition.
The Statendam is scheduled to make a port call in Juneau Thursday.

Ya gotta love our Coast Guard personnel!
Empire staff -
It's "helicopter" and "medevaced".......
GooooOOO team!
Grateful for our amazing USCG and praying for the passenger. (ps - "Tuesday")
Yeah, but...
Yeah for the Coasties...you bet!
But also remember the EMS teams in Gustavus, and Juneau - as well as NPS law enforcement personnel, and the ship's crew - who all cooperated marvelously to get this patient to
Bartlett !!
Teamwork!
Good point, MooseAk - I'm a fan of the USCG medevac crews (our family owes at least one teenager's leg to their heroics) - but the teamwork starts and continues on both sides of the 'copter ride. Excellent reminder...
Medevac - that word never looks right in the past tense. It contains the smaller word 'aced' and that's not how it's pronounced: med-ev-aced would rhyme with 'placed.'
I'd be an advocate for medevac'd or medevacked, maybe. Better yet, craft the header or sentence so as not to have to use it that way.
