Local man arrested after vehicle chase

The Juneau Police Department received a 911 call at 3:27 a.m. Sunday morning that a vehicle was on fire near the Douglas Harbor. The call came at the same time JPD received a report of a vehicle collision with a utility pole at the corner of Saint Ann’s and Savikko Road.

Officers responded and investigated both reports. A witness told officers they had seen a man in a brown van leaving the area of the vehicle fire at a high rate of speed and without headlights illuminated.

Officers located and attempted to stop the van, which tried to elude officers. The van eventually stopped in the parking lot of Channel View Apartments where the driver exited and ran from officers.

The driver of the van was identified as Keith Hanson, 20, of Juneau. Hanson was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to stop at the direction of a police officer and driving without a valid license.

He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and his bail was set at $10,000.

JPD is continuing the investigation into the arson and vehicle accident.
