Juneau police warn of bottle bombs

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, the Juneau Police Department received a call from a resident in the 8600 block of Dudley Street who found the remnants of a plastic bottle pressure bomb near the roadway. The resident had heard an explosion about a week prior but was unable to identify the source. No damage was done.

The JPD has received several calls of this nature and wants to remind citizens pressure bombs can cause serious injury and even death due to the unpredictable nature of the explosive time frame and blast pressure coupled with shrapnel. If you see a plastic bottle that appears to be a pressure bomb do not go near it and contact police. Possible indications are strips of metal foil in the bottle or apparent gas/cloudy buildup inside the bottle.

The JPD investigates reports of destructive devices and anyone with information regarding this or other incidents of this nature are encouraged to call the Juneau Police Dept. at 586-0600 or log onto juneaucrimeline.com.
