RCA grants AEL&P's rate increase

Consumers in Juneau will be paying more for electricity, as the Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved Alaska Electric Light & Power's request for a rate increase Friday night.

The decision grants AEL&P a 24 percent increase in its energy components over originals rates, effectively about a 22 percent increase to the average electric bill. RCA had previously granted a 20 percent jump in AEL&P's ienergy components over originals rates, which meant about an 18 percent rise in the average consumer's bill. Friday's decision will raise the average bill about 4 percent above the rates being paid now.
