Juneau Chamber of Commerce CEO Cathie Roemmich has just completed her second annual training session with the Institute for Organization Management (IOM). She’s on pace to earn the full IOM credentials in two years, which she says will be a valuable asset to Juneau’s chamber.
IOM is a training program run by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It focuses on a variety of professional topics over four week-long sessions. Such topics range from leadership to finance to emerging technologies. The classes are taught by industry experts and university professors. Besides that, it provides invaluable networking with chamber members across the country.
“This is one of the best trainings chamber executives can get,” Roemmich said. “And I really appreciate that my chamber recognizes that and my board sends me.”
She said the experience has gone a long way in developing the Juneau Chamber. For example, it helped her learn ways local businesses could enhance customer service to help satisfy customer concerns with limited selection during the Chamber’s “Look Local First” campaign.
“When I come home after being down there a week, I’m more excited about my job and the new things I can implement in Juneau’s chamber that I can bring from there,” she said.
“Institute participants are recognized across the country as talented leaders in their organizations and communities,” IOM Vice President Raymond P. Towle said in a release. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication necessary to achieve professional and organizational success in the chamber industry.”
Her training was held at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
One of Roemmich’s instructors, David Aaker, will come to Juneau to host a special business presentation on Oct. 5. He has 20 years of experience as a chamber CEO and specializes in keynote presentations and customer service workshops. Sky Radio on American Airlines named him among America’s best speakers.
