ADF&G halts goat hunting in part of Unit 4

Posted: September 27, 2011 - 5:49pm

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game issued an emergency order on Wednesday to close the mountain goat season in the Green Lake-Vodopad River drainage portion of the Unit 4. The guideline harvest level was met Monday morning when a female goat was harvested. Biologists have set a maximum guideline harvest objective of four males and/or one female mountain goat for the area.

The Department states any additional harvest could have long-term negative effects on the goat population.
