The mountain goat hunting season will end today in two Southeast areas, according to a release from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Emergency orders have been issued to close the season at Mt. Kluchman and Border Lake as of 11:59 p.m. today. The release states the harvest level for each of the areas was two points, male goats counting for one point and females two. By Friday, one female goat had been killed at Mt. Kluchman and two males had been harvested at Border Lake.

“Any additional harvest of goats in this area could have long term negative impacts on the health of this goat herd,” the release states.

Hunting conditions and limits for the rest of Area 1C remain unchanged, the release states.
