An emergency order from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game will end mountain goat hunting season early in the area near the north fork of the Katlian River on Baranof Island.
The hunt will now close at 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. It had been schedule to last until Dec. 31.
At the season’s outset, ADF&G biologists set a maximum harvest level of four male goats or one female goat in the area. As of Thursday, four bucks had been killed.
No other hunts in Game Management Unit 4, which includes Baranof Island, is affected by this closure.
