JPD: Drunken driving apparent cause for Saturday crash

Police believe a drunken driver rolled his vehicle three times on Egan Drive in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning. He was later taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

Juneau Police Department Sgt. Dominic Branson said in a statement an officer observed the 2004 Scion driving outbound on Egan near Aurora Harbor at 1:55 a.m. The vehicle drove off the roadway and up the embankment on the outbound side of Egan, causing it to roll over three times.

The driver was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the crash, and no other injuries were reported, the statement read. The Scion was totaled and towed from the scene as a portion of Egan Drive was shut down for about 30 minutes.

Branson wrote speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, he said, and charges are pending.
