SEARHC hires Gassman as professional services administrator

The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) S’áxt’ Hít Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka recently announced the addition of Alicia “Lisa” Gassman as the hospital’s professional services administrator.

The daughter of Al and Pauline Duncan, Gassman was born and raised in Sitka, and she is a member of the Teikweidi clan from the Xóots Valley Hít. Gassman left Sitka to complete her undergraduate work at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She then completed her graduate studies at the University of Washington Law School where she obtained her law degree and was licensed as an attorney in the state of Washington.

Gassman spent the past 12 years working for the Sitka Tribe of Alaska, her first year as the law and trust director and the last 11 years as the general manager and self-governance coordinator. She will oversee six departments at the hospital — dietary, medical nutrition services, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy and social services.

“After contributing 12 years to my tribe, I decided it was time to move on and seek other opportunities for growth while still allowing me to be in a position to help the Native community,” Gassman said. “I view joining SEARHC as the professional services administrator right in line with that goal and look forward to helping SEARHC accomplish its mission ‘to provide the highest quality health services in partnership with Native people.’”
