Spill blocks intersection of Gold, Sixth streets Thursday

Silverbow Construction and Alaska Marine Line employees use a forklift to move wooden beams onto a second truck after the beams slid off the flatbed on Gold Street at Sixth Street Thursday morning. The beams are for the Basin Road bridge project.

An Alaska Marine Lines truck lost a load of lumber while driving uphill Thursday morning, resulting in a closed downtown intersection and about $4,000 damage to vehicles in the area, a release from the Juneau Police Department states.

JPD received a call stating a vehicle had lost items from a trailer it was carrying at about 11 a.m. on Thursday on Gold Street, near Sixth Street. The lumber fell off and struck several parked vehicles in the area, the report states. No one was injured. The resulting spill closed the intersection of Gold and Sixth streets for about two hours.

The driver of the truck, an AML employee, was cited for driving with an unsecured load.
