2 vehicles totaled in Friday morning crash

Two vehicles were totaled in an accident Friday morning at the Fred Meyer intersection, according to the Juneau Police Department.

JPD Officer Chris Gifford said police responded to a report of a car accident at 10:30 a.m. They found a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser was turning left onto Yandukin Drive when it was struck by a 2003 Dodge Durango traveling inbound on Egan Drive.

The driver of the Cruiser, William Hopkins, 78, was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Hopkins was cited for failing to yield while turning left.

The accident shut down traffic on Egan for about 20 minutes and traffic was diverted onto Glacier Highway. Both vehicles appear to have been totaled, Gifford said.
