Juneau’s only dealer and servicer of Bobcats is growing, with more space for its shop and showroom floor at a new location in Lemon Creek.
Bobcat of Juneau finalized the deal last month on a new 4,700-square-foot showroom and shop on nearly two acres near Lemon Creek. The brown and tan building is located at 5450 Glacier Highway across from Tyler Rental.
The Boehms’ new location has a large gravel lot and the building has a shop that takes up almost half its length. A larger lot will give Bobcat more room for storage and the larger shop will allow Boehm to take on more repair jobs, he said.
The local business started in April of 2007 by the Boehm family. Boehm said he and his wife Tina Boehm and his parents Jeff Boehm and Char Boehm own the business and run it themselves.
Boehm said he helped start Bobcat of Juneau mainly because of the family business aspect. However, he said the family specifically chose to sell Bobcats.
“They’ve been making them since 1958 and Bobcat is a really good made-in-the-U.S.A. brand that we were looking for,” Boehm said.
He said it also helped that he grew up near a Bobcat factory in North Dakota.
“That is where I first knew of them,” Boehm said.
Boehm said his family will most likely open at their new location in January.
“We’ll have an open house probably in the spring and have a grand opening special,” Boehm said.
The new location will allow Bobcat to expand, Boehm said.
“(We) will be able to take on more equipment to work on with larger shop. We’ll have more storage capacity and be able to take on more rentals,” Boehm said.
The new location will also have a larger showroom.
Bobcat’s new location was previously occupied by Allen Marine Sales & Service Inc., a marine supply and repair shop that closed in October 2008.
Bobcat of Juneau carries a full line of Bobcat compact equipment and is the only factory authorized Bobcat dealership in Southeast Alaska, according to the business’ website. “We specialize in the service and sale of new, used and rental Bobcat equipment ... and a Bobcat rental fleet,” the website states.
Bobcat’s equipment includes Skidsteers, compact excavators, compact tractors, Versahandlers, equipment trailers and enclosed cargo trailers.
Bobcat of Juneau is a dealer for the Bobcat Company, maker of the well known Bobcat front loader, among other equipment. The Bobcat loader is a maneuverable, compact four-wheeled or tracked vehicle that users can customize with swap-out attachments, like a brush saw, snow blower or hydraulic breaker.
